About

Hi, I’m Gershon Ouano, and this is my blog/site DevelopaBetterYou.com. This blog site is a long-term project of mine and will act as a record, of my self-improvement journey.

Being a U.S. Navy Veteran (was NOT a SEAL, it would’ve been cool though 🙂 ), I’m also a man, with a dream/desire to be better than I once was, to reach my potential, to be more of who I am with certain positive traits, to comfortably be more myself and express it, without shame, guilt, fear, anxiety–and to help others in a similar situation who are conflicted and struggle within.

I do have a history of a variety of mental and physical illnesses and continue to strive and improve to try and heal myself from those shortcomings and mitigate some or all of those symptoms.

You can take my word for it or not, but I do sincerely want to be a better, healthier person and I want to actively share what I’m doing about it, to help, inspire, motivate, and try and help not only myself but those who are on a journey on self-improving.

I just feel it’s honorable and right to not only help myself but to also help others or those who may be struggling in life.

We’re in this world together, so why not try making it a better place, starting from within?

A Little More About Me:

I am an American, of Asian-Filipino Descent. English is my first and only language. Born and raised In the USA, Grew up in Jersey City, NJ, and used to dress and act differently growing up, trying to fit in, Oh, how times have changed! I have a Christian background (The Born-again, Bible Fudamentalist type) although I’m NOT a Christian, however, I do hold prior Christian morals as I was taught since childhood, and most if not all of my family are devout Christians. I do consider myself agnostic and value fairness, respect, love, kindness, honesty, and integrity, among others. I’m currently working on self-improvement/development (Working on gaining strength and losing fat to get to a healthier weight [I was fit and mostly healthy in most of my 20s, I’m currently in my early 40s]), exploring subjects and bodies of knowledge, and finding new and edifying books/videos to read, to watch, listen, and learn on my terms.

As of this update, I’m a loner (NOT anti-social, just social with the right people), introverted, and a homebody, and into applying concepts such as wisdom, discipline, temperance, and courage (virtues of Stoicism), practicing critical thinking and applying concepts daily, self-improvement, and finding ways to be more productive and orderly, working towards goals, and figuring out what else I want to do with my life and spare time and how I can positively contribute to the world/society.

I like listening to a variety of different music and my taste in music has changed over time, these days, generally, I like calm relaxing, mostly pleasant music, violin music, acoustic guitar, piano, movie soundtracks, instrumentals, and music with good lyrics, instrumental or acoustic covers of pop songs, pop songs. Some artists/musicians/songs that come to mind that I’ve listened to recently as of this update are Laufey, Daniel Jang, Jenni Yun, Sungha Jung, Yiruma, Jason Mraz – I’m Yours, Yolanda Adams – Never Give Up, Black Eyed Peas – Where Is The Love?, Eric Clapton – Change The World, Bob Marley – Three Little Birds, The Flash – Running Home To You, Pink Sweat$ – Honesty….

Some movies and shows that I remember liking although have not watched in a while: Enter the Dragon, Back to The Future, Rocky, Superman, Ninja Turtles, Ghostbusters, Lord of the Rings, Dumb and Dumber, Step Brothers, Dragon Ball OG/Z/Super/GT, How I Met Your Mother, The Office, The Flash, Doctor Who.

I currently don’t play games, but I used to enjoy playing Half-life/Counter-Strike when I was younger and Guild Wars 2, I’ve replaced it with sometimes watching comedic or entertaining videos on YouTube, as of recent memory, Azerzz is hilarious (I love to laugh), YT clips from funny parts in movies and shows, such as The Office, Martial Arts/Self Defense (FightTIPS YT Channel, hard2hurt YT Channel, Random BJJ/Self Defense/Boxing/Fighting YT Clips, Bruce Lee YT Clips…), Computer Tech Video Channels (such as Linus Tech Tips, Network Chuck, springs to mind, not to mention the YouTube Channels in the Resources section of this website.).

These days I’m focusing on what matters most to me, being true to myself, and doing more of what I enjoy, what makes me happy, and fulfilled.
