30Jan21 – Self-Improvement Goals

tl;dr takeaways: Have or set self-improvement goals that are realistic and achievable and worthy to attain. Have a plan, plan-of-action, time-frame, details to go along with those goals, and act on the plan. Ask as many relevant questions as you want and need and answer them honestly to know more about yourself in an effort to set self-improvement goals.

We should all have realistic, achievable goals towards something worth achieving and have a plan, plan-of-action, and a time-frame to go along with those goals. I’ve been taught and encouraged to set goals for myself from various sources, and what I might want to accomplish in 5 years or 10 years and beyond. The goals list would look something similar to this example, that I just made up on the fly: 1. Get a degree 2. Get a Job 3. Get a House 4. Get Married….etc. It’s a good start for a list of goals, as it is something, but, an even better list would have more information, such as for 1. Get a Degree, you could provide more details, such as a time-frame when to accomplish that degree, what degree you want to earn, and from where. Even supplying a reason why you would want that particular degree, which moves on to my next point, asking questions. Asking relevant questions and answering them honestly until you figure something out is crucial to learning more about yourself and having goals worth achieving, you may even find yourself getting rid of some goals because it doesn’t suit you anymore, and you may have to re-assess and make new goals.

It hasn’t occurred to me until recently to have a self-improvement goals list of some sort that prompted me to write this blog post. This post is meant to encourage you, the reader, to set self-improvement goals, and have a plan-of-action to achieving them, and setting a time-frame when you want to complete it. I’m still in the process of making some self-improvement goals for myself, that of which I’ll share with you my thought process as I think of some goals as I’m writing this post:

My Process:

Starting with a statement with what I want: “I want a healthier body overall, which includes the brain.” Why do I want this? – Mostly to aid and facilitate thinking well and continue to do so. “Why do I want to be thinking well?” – It’s only good for me, also, it will help me to eliminate the things in my life that are detrimental to my well-being, mind and body, lifestyle. “What are the detrimental things?” – just to name a couple, having bad habits, such as bad spending habits, thinking poorly – which leads to bad choices.

Other thoughts: Having a healthier brain and body is just the beginning, you have to learn and train to think well. Read, watch, listen to beneficial things that will help you accomplish to think well overall.

Tip: re-assess your goals every so often to keep up to date

Some goals that I made up on the spot while writing this post is:

  1. Lose 30lbs – Get into a healthy weight for my height – 6 months
    • Eat healthier, eat less, exercise regularly
  2. Write a blog post at least weekly – keep the mind sharp and aware, pushes me to look at resources and to learn and share thoughts
    • at least post an update

That’s pretty much all I want to share, for now, as I continue this process and make more self-improvement goals for myself after publishing this blog post. I hope you got something good out of reading this post. Thank you for stopping by!
